The Raconteurs - Consolers Of The Lonely

Why Jack White Should Never Make Another White Stripes Album
I was a bit skeptical of the new Raconteurs album to be honest, it just seemed to jump out of nowhere and their debut album left me underwhelmed. The first thing I noticed listening to Consolers Of The Lonely is how well Brendon Benson and Jack White work together as a song writing duo. They bounce ideas back and fourth between each other with such a grace that it reminds me of Lennon and McCartney. While White Howls Benson Croons, creating a perfect balance to base the album upon.
The first track (which lends its name to the title of the cd )Consolers Of The Lonely is probably the best example of their songwriting talent together. Its a nice simple rockout featuring some sweet bluesy style call and response guitar licks between White and Benson. The awesome thing about this song is the way the guitar reflects which singer is taking the lead. While Benson sings the guitar is far more structured and tight to suit his style of singing where as when White takes the lead of singing the guitar falls back to the loose blues riff thats used as the introduction. Its an awesome technique that really helps accentuate the vocals and just shows how well these two work together as a duo.
I always found The White Stripes music to be lacking a certain dynamic that truly set it apart, sure Jack White came up with some bitchrod songs but he just sounds so much more comfortable and confident with a full band with him that it makes me wish he never does another White Stripes album again.
The New Raconteurs album Consolers Of The Lonely is a cd that just appeared and smacked me in my face with its pure greatness. It's one of the best alternative rock albums I've heard in a few years, give it a go. It won't be a waste of your time, these guys are true songwriters.
